Caterina J is a Chilean singer-songwriter and actress, based in Brooklyn, New York City. At a very early age, Caterina demonstrated interest in music thanks to the sounds she grew up listening with her family and began taking piano lessons at 7 years old. By age 12, she began writing her own songs. Even though she started in the performing arts as a model, it was the combination of a modeling pageant and a Shakira song she sung at the pageant that opened up the doors to a real dream in the music scene, thanks to the audienceʼs great reception.
In 2006, she was cast as the leading lady in the chilean film "Kiltro" by Ernesto Diaz Espinoza. After her cinematic debut, she went to study performing arts at the New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts. Since her return to the US, (she was born in Boston, MA, before moving and growing up in Santiago, Chile), she has been exhaustively working for her art.
Since 2012, Caterina J has been a regular performer in New York Cityʼs local live circuit, making appearances on notable venues like The Bowery Electric, Rockwood Music Hall, Nublu, The Bitter End, Subrosa and many others.
Her debut album came in 2016. A combination of jazz, rock, blues, and pop elements, drive the project that has a mature and established sound. The Album took two years in the making, where she collaborated with talented New York City-based musicians. “I Confess” is a nine- song album in which Caterina J combines Spanish and English sung tracks with brilliant cohesion.
Her latest EP, "Reborn" (2021), was recorded at Plaid Dog Recording Studio in Boston with producer Mike Davidson. Reborn is flush with a nuance and exotic mystery, weaving a thread through the lineage of classic rock, 90’s alternative and latin jazz. The album’s title-track was released ahead of a successful Indiegogo campaign to record it, finding a premiere spot on the 2020 Jan/Feb edition of Relix Magazine’s Artist Sampler Playlist. The EP has had great reviews on the Big Takeover and Guitar Girl magazines, among many others.
